The GUIDE (Tier I) workshop is intended to generate 包容 community among SMC 教师 和 staff.

 

Background

The 第一级指南 program at Saint Mary’s College is an introductory learning experience required for all employees.  Its primary intent is to support common underst和ing, 语言, 和 awareness of expectations related to employee 多样性, 公平与包容. GUIDE是的结果 学生的积极性要求 for 教师 和 staff to have training that promoted a diverse, 公平的, 和 包容 campus for all identities. Thank you for stepping into this experience 和 joining with other employees in this educational process.

 

GUIDE的目的是什么?

GUIDE – Gaels Uniting for 包容 和 多样性 through Education (Tier 1) – is SMC’s campus-wide workshop for all employees. The program title 和 acronym symbolize our belief that we have the capacity to teach 和 learn from each other; to guide 和 be guided toward a deeper underst和ing of 和 respect for our intersecting differences 和 similarities. It also represents our conviction that shared intention combined with collective action will guide our College on the journey toward a respectful, 包容, 和 safe environment for all members of our campus community 

The GUIDE (Tier I) workshop is intended to generate an 包容 community among SMC 教师 和 staff. 第一级指南 is a required training for all employees.

这个车间 是必需的 for all full-time 教师 和 staff at least once every 三年. Per-course adjuncts are strongly encouraged but not required, to participate in GUIDE.

 

How is Completion of Tier I Workshops Accomplished?

GUIDE项目包括 三个 会话,每个 1.5小时长 (4.5 hours total) with some homework 和 reflection assignments between them. 给n that GUIDE is a cohort model, is it important that a participant attend all the sessions for the cohort for which they signed up. Reminders in the form of multiple emails are sent to participants. 这可能意味着 if a participant misses one session, they will need to sign up for another cohort in a later semester.

第一级指南 focuses on community building 和 working with its participants to develop a basic underst和ing of power, 特权, 和 systems of oppression; adjusts its pedagogical approach to be sensitive to the power dynamics among its attendees 和 minimize the risk of burdening those from marginalized groups.

 

When are 第一级指南 研讨会 offered?

GUIDE (Tier I) 研讨会 will be offered in 10月3月. They will be held during Flextimes on 星期一 星期三 (1:30-3:00 pm).  An online option may be offered as well.  Faculty 和 staff will be notified of specific dates 和 a form for confirmation of attendance will be provided.

Each cohort is made up of 20-25 employees.

 

If someone doesn’t complete GUIDE?

没有指南认证, 教师 are ineligible to apply for sabbatical funding, internal awards 和 grants, 和 conference funding.

 

Learning Objectives for the 第一级指南:

  1. Build community across the diverse individuals within our campus community.
  2. Introduce 和 explore a range of words 和 concepts related to diversity, 股本 和 inclusion. 
  3. Expose participants to stories of how oppression, 种族歧视, 和 exclusion impact members of our community 和 influence people 和 things on a system-wide level.                                                                                              
  4. Expose participants to basic expectations of workplace behavior in relation to diversity, 股本, 以及在圣玛丽的包容.                                                   
  5. Inspire a next-step commitment, 和 inform people of relevant resources they can access.

Can I take a training elsewhere 和 have it count for GUIDE? No. No, the expectation is that employees take GUIDE Tier 1 every 三年, preferably within six months of joining Saint Mary’s.

完成一个 Tier 2指南 培训符合 4.5小时的 要求 of GUIDE Tier 1 can fulfill the GUIDE 要求.

You can also meet the GUIDE expectation by facilitating GUIDE Tier 1 or Tier 2 sessions that meet the 4.5小时的 要求. To be eligible as a GUIDE facilitator, you must have completed GUIDE Tier 1 within the 三年 时间表.

Can a cohort participant go to another cohort’s session? No. A participant is supposed to attend all 三个 sessions of the cohort they committed to. GUIDE is designed to be a learning community among cohort members.
